Meet the BLUG!

New Chuanr Czar
Wednesday, 17 June 2009

ImageSome of you may know that our current Chuanr Czar (Chris, the guy who organizes [most] of the Chuanr nights) will be leaving Beijing in early July.  As Chuanr is such a big part of BLUG's culture (and history), we decided to start searching for a worthy person who is just as passionate as, if not more than, Chris.  At last night's Chuanr night, we nominated, and confirmed Julien, a long time member of the BLUG, to replace Chris as the new Chuanr Czar.

Let's all congratulate Julien in his new position and I am sure we all await eagerly for the next Chuanr event!

Mandriva Spring Installfest 2009 Pics up
Sunday, 14 June 2009
Image Mandriva Spring Installfest 2009 , co-organized by SUPINFO , BLUG and Dexxon , was successfully conducted in Beijing yesterday! In total, we had around 30 people coming, including helpers and users, we got Mandriva installed, issues fixed, some migrated from Windows, some from other Linux distributions. Jean-Daniel started with an introduction of SUPINFO and the event itself, followed by Funda who presented Mandriva 2009.1. Then our great new President, Pockey introduced the BLUG to the audience, and all the things we do (and we do a lot!), and Fred closed the talks with G-Linux (a customized MIPS version of Mandriva) and the Gdium project. The most important thing is that everybody was very happy with the results! A big thank you to Jean-Daniel from SUPINFO, our BLUG core member, Funda Wang and of course all the other BLUG members who joined and supported the event. Click here if you want to feel the joy "again"!

BLUG May09 Meeting Pics up
Monday, 01 June 2009
ImageMay's big BLUG meeting.
No beaches, mountains, the sea or beautiful landscapes but pictures of many of our members enjoying an evening to educate and enjoy themselves! Two interesting talks provided more than enough for interesting and long discussons. A big Thank You to the kind waiters and waitresses who are always patient waiting for us finishing the last thought, beer, joke and just making it out of the door before the lock up!
See who was there as well, just in case you've forgotten...
beers where only 5RMB that night!

Pockey Lam, new BLUG President
Saturday, 30 May 2009
Pockey President!Chosen by an overwhelming majority, this year new President is well known from all of us for her dedication, energy, and commitment to Open Source and the BLUG. After two years of doing behind-the-scene work as Vice-President we're proud to introduce Pockey Lam as our new representative! This nomination also puts the BLUG as one of the rare Linux User Group lead by a woman, and a very charming one on top of that! Pockey's involvements in the Chinese and international Open Source scene will definitely be a big boost for our community and take us to the next level! A big thank you on behalf of all of us for accepting the responsibilities and all the best for the year to come!

Thursday, 21 May 2009
SFD 2009Software Freedom Day 2009 registration has just opened. The first 200 teams registered before Friday 10 July will receive a SFD team pack including three SFD 2009 T-shirts, Ubuntu CDs, and a few other bits and pieces to support their event. Beijing LUG is of course already registered and we will be starting to produce the schwags for the whole world. This year BLUG and COPU have teamed up to make a Chinese website, SFDChina.org, to provide further information in Chinese to the Chinese teams as well as a message board to help them better prepare. There will be a few other surprises along the way but we can't tell you else it wouldn't be called a surprise, would it?
