Happy New Tiger Year from BLUG!
Sunday, 14 February 2010
Happy Chinese New Year!A new year comes by and the Beijing LUG is very happy to be here to wish you all Linux users of Beijing and the rest of the world a Happy Chinese New Year! As we're entering the year of the Tiger, the BLUG is now on it's 8th year of existence and going strong. With many new projects and new members to fulfill this year I sometimes wonder where we will stop, if ever. This of course is a community effort and BLUG wouldn't be what it is without its members. So thank you all for your participation and contributions. We wish that the tiger will be with all of us to help achieve beyond our hopes. Happy New Year!

Ignite Beijing March 3rd
Tuesday, 09 February 2010
Ignit Week BeijingOur good book sponsor, O'Reilly is pushing their Ignite concept one step further this year and making a Global Ignite Week from March 1st to 5th. In short, it's an opportunity to share your ideas over a beer, and send the word out through your network with a 5 minutes presentation made of 20 slides (15 seconds per slides moving automatically). Watching this video of what Ignite is (youtube link for people outside of China) is definitely worth 5 minutes of your time. So O'Reilly China is helping you to get your word out in Beijing and you find out all the details and register here. Definitely something to mark down on your calendar!

Hackerspace in Beijing
Thursday, 04 February 2010
HackerspaceFollowing up on building a Hackerspace in Beijing after last month presentation we have been moving forward with the plan. Since then Jean has started a Hackerspace Group in the BLUG and a few members have been discussing in the forum to put ideas together like budgeting and location. Clone, a geeky talented architect even stepped forward and is willing to contribute on the design of the hackerspace. In order to establish our budgeting, we need your input: there is now a poll on the left side of the page for interested members to vote! To make the Hackerspace happening in Beijing, please participate and let us know how much you would be willing to contribute and which kind of membership (monthly, bi-yearly or yearly) suits you better!

BLUG VP becomes Software Freedom International President
Wednesday, 03 February 2010

FredOur BLUG Vice President, Fred (previously President) was elected to be the new president for Software Freedom International 2010! As you may know, with Fred's leadership, we have been involved in promoting and organizing SFD events in China since 2007. Our SFD 2007 event was elected to be the best event award. Starting from 2008, we have been involved in the worldwide promotion and responsible for the Schwags (gift packs) delivering to all the registered SFD teams in the world. In 2009, we assisted the launch of sfdchina.org and supported over 70 SFD events in China. This great news definitely would bring BLUG to a higher level of involvement in the Software Freedom Day  events! Congratulation to Fred and all the best to Software Freedom Day 2010.
